My name is Ian Nichols and on this page I’ll tell you a little about who I am and what BIMscape is all about.
I am registered Architect living in Shropshire, which is in the West Midlands, United Kingdom. I studied Architecture a very long time ago at DeMonfort University, Leicester. For the next 17 years I worked at a variety of Local Authorities in the West Midlands. By the end of that period I had worked my way up to the position of Design Team Leader.
Why I started BIMscape
In 2005 I got to use Autodesk Revit for the very first time! And very quickly I was totally hooked. As an Architect, this software seemed to be the perfect (well, almost) tool for the job of designing buildings. I was then on a mission to learn everything I possibly could about this fantastic piece of software. I was taken with Revit that I decided to start a tutorial website dedicated to it: www.RevitZone.com
It was around 2010 that the acronym “BIM” really started to appear in the UK. From then, BIM only grew in terms of information, interest and debate. In the winter of 2013 I decided to leave my current employment and start my own company, specialising in my passion- BIM. And this is how BIMscape was born!
How I can help you
As an Architect, I have worked with a wide spectrum of construction professionals and property clients. I appreciate the complexities in the design and procurement process; and the challenges faced by all stakeholders. The best thing about BIM is that it has benefits for everyone involved in a construction project. Whether you are a designer, a contractor, a CDM Coordinator or a client; BIM has many benefits for you and your organisation.
With my experience and the technology at my disposal, I am able to provide a range of Training products and Services in the field of BIM. Details of these can be found under their respective headings on the menu bar above.
As well as commissioned Services, I also provide a wide range of free information for the BIM enthusiast. On this website you will find articles and tutorials on the use of software packages (such as Revit, Navisworks, etc) as well as the theory and practise of BIM. I also have a YouTube Channel, where you’ll find related videos (click the YouTube icon in the top right of the site to go directly to the Channel)
